I'm sorry to report that there's nothing to report, still on baby watch. It's a bit foggy this morning, and Teala is cushed by the feeder eating like a pig. We're supposed to warm up quite a bit mid-week, so maybe soon.

Sunday, February 27, 2005 7:08 AM
We had another nice warm day, with an afternoon thunderstorm again. This morning, we have a bit of fog, but it's still warm.
Teala has managed to make the one year mark on her pregnancy, and she's just cushing and chewing her cud this morning. It looks like she's going to make me wait a bit longer.

It was nice, sunny and warm yesterday, until an afternoon thunderstorm interrupted our day. There wasn't a lot of rain, it just cooled things off enough to spoil the fun for the humans.
Our rain for next week has been cancelled due to lack of interest, we're just going to have clouds instead.

Ahhh, sunshine. It was warm and sunny yesterday, and today looks like the same. I had to wean Dewdrop, she's 8 months old and mom was getting a bit thin. She pined for about 5 minutes, and then went on her merry way.
Teala's behavior has changed quite a bit, I think she just wants to hit the one year mark before she delivers. That would be the day after tomorrow.

There's a big yellow ball in the sky outside, I seem to vaguely remember seeing it before. Yep, the sun has finally returned.
I let some of the alpacas into "play areas" yesterday, where they get to munch on some weeds. Of course they have to roll and play in them also.
"Pickles" that Julie from Alpacas of Idyllwild bought, has settled in fine, she finally got the hang of treat time, and Conquistador is enjoying his new found friends.
Yes, Teala is still fat, but with the warm sun today, who knows.

We did have a bit of sun yesterday, but no baby. I guess she's going to wait for nicer weather. Based on the forecast I'm seeing, that could take a while. We're going from rain to sun and back to rain. That should keep her confused.

Tuesday, February 22, 2005 8:48 AM
We have a little respite from the rain, but there is more on the way. It's difficult to tell the huacayas from the suris.
It's day 359 for Teala, she left the treats early last night, and she has been cushing in an unusual spot all morning. I think it will just take a bit of sunshine for her to give it up.

I made it back from the Snowmass auction in Phoenix, and had a great time. They had to replace lot 36 due to a cut foot, Conquistador took his place. I held the bidding card up longer than everyone else, and brought him home with me.
He's as black as they come, and has a blinding luster. I can't wait to put him to work.
It's been raining pretty steadily, but the crias all seem to be used to it now, they're all just running around playing as if it was a sunny day.

Thursday, February 17, 2005 6:51 AM
It's forecast to rain, but it's hard to believe looking out the window, I'm not buying it. Boy, to have a job where you get paid to be wrong. Wait! I've posted "Flossie will deliver today" only to have her hold off for 3 weeks. I guess I do have a job like that.

Again, a nice sunny day, the storm seems to have hit Santa Barbara and turned left. The poor schmuks in Arizona are getting it instead of us.
Tomorrow morning, I head over to Arizona for a couple of days, looks like I'll be a schmuk too.

Tuesday, February 15, 2005 7:48 AM
It's an absolutely perfect morning, lots of sunshine and warm. The rain in the forecast has been pushed back a day, I'm hoping it just plain stays away.
The alpacas are basking in the sun, with the exception of George and Windsor, they're annoying everyone else, as usual.

Monday, February 14, 2005 7:50 AM
Looks like the rain will be coming back tomorrow, just when things were starting to dry out. The suris all look wonderful, clean and lots of luster. The huacayas are just starting to look like huacayas again. Ready for round two...

Sunday, February 13, 2005 7:41 AM
The rain is gone, we're supposed to have a couple of descent days before we get some showers again starting on Wednesday. Sir George is quite the trouble maker, he loves to annoy all of the adults. He and Sir Windsor are the best of buddies, and Windsor tries to keep George from annoying the adults as much as he can. George though, has more energy than all of the crias combined.

Saturday, February 12, 2005 7:00 AM
We ended up with a bit more rain than expected, not enough to really bother the alpacas much, but enough to really mess up the road again. The rain will be tapering off today, so I'll probably have tractor duty on Monday or Tuesday.
Teala is at day 349, but shows no signs that she's ready to deliver. Looks like it's going to be a long one.

Friday, February 11, 2005 6:39 AM
We did have some rain overnight, but nothing major, just enough to wet everything down. It's funny how animals seem to know that bad weather is coming, and they seem to "stock up." It would seem that alpacas are no exception, Shogun bred for 66 minutes yesterday.

Thursday, February 10, 2005 7:48 AM
There's rain on the way tomorrow, not as bad as our last storm, we should just get a bit. I'm just about caught up on all of the breedings, most of the early pregnancies went away during our bad storms, so we lost a bit of time.

Wednesday, February 9, 2005 8:25 AM
It's sunny and warm, day 346 for Teala, and she still seems quite comfy, no milk yet, no elongation, she's just fat.

Tuesday, February 8, 2005 8:17 AM
It started out as a foggy morning, but the sun is peeking through now. George has become extremely outgoing, always wanting to know what everyone is up to. I think he annoys some of the moms.
He's also become best buddies with Windsor, and when they are playing, Arianna is not allowed to join in.

Monday, February 7, 2005 8:39 AM
The alpacas enjoyed the Super Bowl, ate tacos, burritos, and other junk food. Wait, no, that was me.
It's a nice cool overcast morning, we had a bit of drizzle yesterday, but no real rain. The little boys are just running around trying to tackle the little girls. That's my boys :)

Sunday, February 6, 2005 7:47 AM
It's Super Bowl Sunday, and the alpacas have stocked up on drinks and pellets so they can sit down and watch it. The suris seem to be mostly rooting for the New England Patriots, The huacayas are split between the Philadelphia Eagles and apathy. Rose and Lillith, the llamas have been upstairs trying to book tickets to Jacksonville online, but unbeknownst to them, I cut off their credit card. Me? I'm going to scoop poop...

Saturday, February 5, 2005 7:48 AM
It's a bit cooler this morning, only about 50 degrees. The Santa Ana's are gone. It looks like Carmella's eye is fine, we'll still keep a watch on it for the next few days, but she's rejoined the rest of the herd. Other than that, all's quiet on the western front...

Friday, February 4, 2005 8:37 AM
It's a nice warm sunny day, and the winds have pretty much quit. They made a mess, but no real damage.
I got a chance to get a good look at Teala, looks like it'll be a couple more weeks for her.

Thursday, February 3, 2005 7:39 AM
Yikes! I didn't do an update yesterday.
It's sunny and warm, the Santa Ana's are blowing, but only about 25 mph here.
Carmella is locked upstairs with a companion, she got kicked in the eye, we need to watch it for a bit. She's not really happy about being up here, but she is getting more treats.

Tuesday, February 1, 2005 7:36 AM
A couple of the boys are still whining a bit about the weaning, but they seem to be handling it okay overall. The moms now seem relieved to get those pesky boys out of their hair.
